How To Pray

Psalm 145:18

"God’s there, listening for all who pray,

for all who pray and mean it."

This verse is pretty self explanatory. God will always be there for those who can be candid and truthful when they talk to Him.

Philippians 4:6-7

"Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life."

Prayer and Christ is our replacement for worry. So when you start to worry or become afraid turn to God and pray and trust in Him.

Luke 18:1

"Then Jesus taught the followers that they should always pray and never lose hope. He used this story to teach them:"

This passage continues to tell a story about praying. So I would highly suggest looking into that passage. But in the mean time these verses are powerful enough. This verse really shows us that Jesus cares enough about His followers to teach them and be an example of how to pray.

1 John 1:9

"But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done."

We just need to confess. We don't deserve or redeem God's grace. He gives it out generously. All we must do is confess, simple enough.

Colossians 4:2

"Never stop praying. Be ready for anything by praying and being thankful."

Again pretty self explanatory. Always be praying to The Lord to be ready for anything in your life.

Romans 2:12-16 Commentary

Romans 2:12-16

Romans 2:12-13

"If you sin without knowing what you’re doing, God takes that into account. But if you sin knowing full well what you’re doing, that’s a different story entirely. Merely hearing God’s law is a waste of your time if you don’t do what he commands. Doing, not hearing, is what makes the difference with God."
I love the first verse. For some reason that verse brings me comfort when I feel like I have done nothing wrong. I feel like this verse will help lots of goody two shoes like me who feel like they haven't made a mistake but they are being tortured.

Romans 2:14-16

"When outsiders who have never heard of God’s law follow it more or less by instinct, they confirm its truth by their obedience. They show that God’s law is not something alien, imposed on us from without, but woven into the very fabric of our creation. There is something deep within them that echoes God’s yes and no, right and wrong. Their response to God’s yes and no will become public knowledge on the day God makes his final decision about every man and woman. The Message from God that I proclaim through Jesus Christ takes into account all these differences."
I believe that God is saying that judgement is justified because God knows all of our imperfections. God knows us inside and out so He has the right to judge our sins because He is a perfect and sovereign God.

Romans 2:1-11 Commentary

Romans 2:1-11

Romans 2:1-2

"So do you think that you can judge those other people? You are wrong. You too are guilty of sin. You judge them, but you do the same things they do. So when you judge them, you are really condemning yourself. God judges all who do such things, and we know his judgment is right."
It takes one to know one. I believe this verse is a great wake up verse for us who are judgers. We all judge others from time to time. But we are not sovereign the way God is, we have no right to judge other people. Thats God's job.

Romans 2:3-4

"And since you do the same things as those people you judge, surely you understand that God will punish you too. How could you think you would be able to escape his judgment? And since you do the same things as those people you judge, surely you understand that God will punish you too. How could you think you would be able to escape his judgment?"
I love how the message explains verse 4. It says that "God is kind but not soft. In kindness He takes us firmly by hand and leads us into a radical life-change." He has no reason to forgive us but He does. But He has the right and power to judge us if that makes sense.

Romans 2:5-8

"You’re not getting by with anything. Every refusal and avoidance of God adds fuel to the fire. The day is coming when it’s going to blaze hot and high, God’s fiery and righteous judgment. Make no mistake: In the end you get what’s coming to you—Real Life for those who work on God’s side, but to those who insist on getting their own way and take the path of least resistance, Fire!"

I love the way the message says this so I used it rather than ERV. I have a hard time reading verses like these because I know non-Christians wont be going to heaven. I care for people a lot, and reading things like this is hard to understand why God would do this. But I remember that we deserve nothing we get in the first place, let alone eternal life. But He gives it to us anyways.

Romans 2:9-11

"If you go against the grain, you get splinters, regardless of which neighborhood you’re from, what your parents taught you, what schools you attended. But if you embrace the way God does things, there are wonderful payoffs, again without regard to where you are from or how you were brought up. Being a Jew won’t give you an automatic stamp of approval. God pays no attention to what others say (or what you think) about you. He makes up his own mind."
I believe these verses are saying that if you aren't a Christian, no matter how good you are, you will be punished in the end. Its hard to wrap your head around that God is a loving God yet He sends His children to hell. But we have to believe God has a plan and a purpose.

1 John 1:5-10 Commentary

1 John 1:5-10 Commentary

     Read 1 John 1:5-10
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Where there is light, darkness cannot be found. You know this, if you shine a flashlight on a wall there is no darkness unless the light is covered up. God shines bright through you if you let Him and you don't cover Him up.

John 8:12 says:
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
I love how this verse says whoever follows me WILL not walk in darkness. It doesn't say "oh yeah if you follow me you might not walk in the darkness anymore." It says we won't walk in the darkness.

Verse seven talks about how God has a remedy for our sins. If we live in the light and proclaim Christ is Lord and follow the Roman Road we will live with fellowship with one another.

Verse eight talks about how we can't claim to be a Christian and live in darkness. Psalm 89:15 says:
Lord, your loyal followers are happy. They live in the light of your kindness.
But after all this God still forgives us.

Romans 1:26-32

Romans 1:26-32

Romans 1:26-27

26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
This is a controversial topic. But I do believe what this verse says, being gay is a sin, but I don't think being gay can keep you from heaven. There is nothing, and I mean nothing that can keep you from the love of Christ. I'm not ashamed of anything I've just said.

Romans 1:28

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
God, willingly I might add, let them over to their sinful desires.

Romans 1:29-31

29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of  evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
These verses tell us exactly what not to do. Yet we are all at least a few of these things. I know we can't be perfect, but we need to strive to be like Christ and to live in his ways.

Romans 1:32

Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
We all deserve death, we tend to forget that little detail of life. And we tend to "okay" what sinful natures other people have because we have them or other reasons. But thats not right. Call out your friend when they hurt you, tell them that you love them and you want whats best for them so you need to tell them not to do it again.

Favorite Verses

Hey you guys,

This is gonna be a quick and easy post, filled with just my favorite verses. Enjoy

Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
I love this verse due to the fact that we are free from judgement of the world.

James 1:12

I love this verse because it gives hope in rough times.

John 16:33

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
We don't need to worry about the world. He has already overcome the world for us.

Micah 6:8

Its so simple, it speaks for itself. Its so plain and tells us straight up what to do.

Matthew 5:7

We need mercy. There is a reason Jesus came to earth, because we need him.

Ephesians 2:19-22

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens,[a] but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by[b] the Spirit.
Our identity is in Christ. Not in the things we own or do, its in our faith.

John 15:18-19

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
Truly if we aren't hated, we are doing something wrong.

Psalms 42

As a deer pants for flowing streams,    so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God,    for the living God.When shall I come and appear before God?  My tears have been my food    day and night, while they say to me all the day long,    “Where is your God?   These things I remember,    as I pour out my soul:how I would go with the throng    and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise,    a multitude keeping festivalWhy are you cast down, O my soul,    and why are you in turmoil within me?Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,    my salvation[c]   and my God.My soul is cast down within me;    therefore I remember youfrom the land of Jordan and of Hermon,    from Mount Mizar. Deep calls to deep    at the roar of your waterfalls;all your breakers and your waves    have gone over me. By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life. I say to God, my rock:    “Why have you forgotten me?Why do I go mourning    because of the oppression of the enemy?”  As with a deadly wound in my bones,    my adversaries taunt me,while they say to me all the day long,    “Where is your God?”    Why are you cast down, O my soul,    and why are you in turmoil within me?Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,    my salvation and my God.

Its relatable, it really speaks for itself.

Psalms 56:3

When I am afraid, put my trust in you.

Its so simple but it is so hard to do. Its a great reminder of something we should do in our everyday life.

I believe everyone needs at least five verses memorized that are not the standard Genesis 1;1 or John 3:16. We need to learn to hide God's word in our heart.

Romans 1:18-25

Romans 1:18-25

Romans 1:18

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
God hates wickedness and evil. God loves everyone, yes, but there is a limit to how much killing and other sinful acts can be done before God's wrath will come down upon them.

Romans 1:19-20

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,[g] in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
God has made his love obvious to everyone. You can see God in the stars and in nature, you must know that plants and stars don't just appear, there must be a creator.

Romans 1:21

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
This is a weird circumstance, yes I get it, I used to not praise God everyday of my life. But these people knew God yet didn't praise him, they knew his grace and mercy and still they didn't follow Christ.

Romans 1:22

Claiming to be wise, they became fools,
This is similar to "Fake Christians." You know those people who have God in their Instagram bio but still act like jerks and leave mean comments. This is very similar to saying you're wise but being foolish.

Romans 1:23

and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
These people again made other idols other than God. We do that today, we put other things in front of  God. Some people more than others but it is still a thing that goes on today. When people now a days think of worshiping idols they think of ancient Egyptians, but we still put things in front of God. Wether that be our pride our our new Iphone, anything can be an idol.

Romans 1:24

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,
God took away his influence so they they could see their sinfulness.

Romans 1:25

because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
It always gets me when people say we worship the creation but not the creator. And it's so true. We worship other people, ourselves even, but not someone who created all these things.

Summary Prayer:

Dear Lord,
I pray for everyone reading this, that you may help them to not give into the ways of the world, not to make idols in front of you Lord. Help them to live by your word God and by your truth. I love you and I praise you.
Amen

ERV

18 God shows his anger from heaven against all the evil and wrong things that people do. Their evil lives hide the truth they have. 19 This makes God angry because they have been shown what he is like. Yes, God has made it clear to them.
20 There are things about God that people cannot see—his eternal power and all that makes him God. But since the beginning of the world, those things have been easy for people to understand. They are made clear in what God has made. So people have no excuse for the evil they do.
21 People knew God, but they did not honor him as God, and they did not thank him. Their ideas were all useless. There was not one good thought left in their foolish minds. 22 They said they were wise, but they became fools. 23 Instead of honoring the divine greatness of God, who lives forever, they traded it for the worship of idols—things made to look like humans, who get sick and die, or like birds, animals, and snakes.
24 People wanted only to do evil. So God left them and let them go their sinful way. And so they became completely immoral and used their bodies in shameful ways with each other.25 They traded the truth of God for a lie. They bowed down and worshiped the things God made instead of worshiping the God who made those things. He is the one who should be praised forever. Amen.

ESV

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,[a] in the things that have been made. NIV

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

MSG

18-23 But God’s angry displeasure erupts as acts of human mistrust and wrongdoing and lying accumulate, as people try to put a shroud over truth. But the basic reality of God is plain enough. Open your eyes and there it is! By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can’t see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of his divine being. So nobody has a good excuse. What happened was this: People knew God perfectly well, but when they didn’t treat him like God, refusing to worship him, they trivialized themselves into silliness and confusion so that there was neither sense nor direction left in their lives. They pretended to know it all, but were illiterate regarding life. They traded the glory of God who holds the whole world in his hands for cheap figurines you can buy at any roadside stand.

24-25 So God said, in effect, “If that’s what you want, that’s what you get.” It wasn’t long before they were living in a pigpen, smeared with filth, filthy inside and out. And all this because they traded the true God for a fake god, and worshiped the god they made instead of the God who made them—the God we bless, the God who blesses us. Oh, yes!
