Romans 1:1-7

Hey you guys.
I'm going to be starting a new series called "Romans Digest" and it will be us "eating an elephant." You know the saying that says "When eating an elephant take one bite at a time." We will be slowing making our way through Romans. Each chapter will  have four parts (so that will be a lot of parts.) There are sixteen chapters to Romans so that entails 64 parts in all. I'll be doing one of these a week along with one other post every two weeks. So that means 6 posts a month for over a year. I hope you guys love this series. I know I'm excited. Thanks so much you guys. Y'all are the best.

Romans 1

Romans 1:1-7

I've decided that I'm going to copy down my three favorite versions for you guys the first version is The Message, the second is ESV, and the third is NIV. I think it's important to be able to read the text in what version is your favorite when we are "digesting" it. And we are able to compare different versions so we can really go in depth with these verses. By the way I use NIV for this section of my blog.

Verse 1:
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God
The definition of Apostle is "Any of the early followers of Jesus who carried the Christian message into the world"
When you carry the Christian message (gospel) you are set apart from the world. We are all called to be disiples and followers of Christ, that why we are called Christ-ians.

Verse 2:
The gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures
God promised this gospel and we got it. God is faithful, an attribute that we need to learn to have. This also signifies that the book of the Bible is true. It shows us that we need to have faith that things will happen that The Lord promises us. It took hundreds of years after the prophets to write the gospel.

Verse 3:
regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David,
I believe that this is very significant. David is a very powerful ruler and Muslims believe David is a prophet. David is also a descendant of Abraham. If you don't remember, God promised Abraham a great name and great nation. Jesus is a descendant of Abraham. GOD is a descendant of Abraham. If that doesn't scream a great name and nation I don't know what does.

Verse 4:
and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
The resurrection proves that Jesus is a divine being. It proves our faith. It is the cornerstone of our faith. Now what is interesting about this verse is it refers to, to my knowledge, the holy spirit as the Spirit of holiness. And again through some digging I believe this is the only place in the bible that says the spirit of holiness.

Verse 5:
Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.
We were given grace through Jesus' death. So through that grace and by that grace we go out and we follow God and we do what he tells us to do. All of our courage and willingness should "come from our faith" that we have been saved and that God died for our sins.

Verse 6:
And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.

We are called to a higher standard than the rest of the world. We are called to go out and spread the word. And I know you hear it all the time, but it could be right in your town. Go out and do something nice for someone, or share a verse with them, pray for them. Do something. I challenge you to go and do something today. Go and do something nice for someone today. Share them the word of God.

Verse 7:

To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people:

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
We are called to be his "holy people." The word holy means: exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness. We are meant to be his worthy people, his good and righteous people. That's pretty cool.  Grace means: disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency. Peace means: a state of tranquillity or quiet. Don't you ever just want forgiveness and quiet? God gives it to us.

Thanks you guys for reading, this week has been super fun to write. I love this. This is what I did for my devotional this morning. I love you guys. Have a great day!
